The topic of the symposium is "Humanitarian aid in the light of the current geopolitical situation".
The next Humanitarian Symposium Munich (HSM) will be held on Saturday, 14 February 2026, starting at 9:00, CET, in the Hörsaal at the LMU Kinderklinik, Lindwurmstraße 4, 80337 Munich.
Humanitarian aid faces significant challenges amidst current geopolitical instability, with increased needs due to conflicts and economic crises, alongside funding gaps and access restrictions. The "politicization" of aid, where it is abused to advance specific political agendas, further complicates the situation.
The current geopolitical situation presents significant hurdles for humanitarian aid, but also highlights the critical need for effective and principled humanitarian action. By addressing the challenges and adapting to the evolving landscape, the international community can work towards ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those who need it most.
During the HSM 2026, we will explore the impacts of latest geopolitical developments on the operations of NGOs, and discuss efforts to safeguard the neutrality and independence of humanitarian action that are crucial to ensure that aid is delivered based on need, not political considerations. The symposium will consider how we can build stronger relationships between humanitarian organizations, policymakers, and local communities as is essential for navigating the complex geopolitical landscape and effectiveness aid delivery.
The symposium will take place in presenter-hybrid-format, where in presence as well as online invited speakers will present their work and expertise on the topic throughout a full day program. Participants can only join the symposium in presence as the organizers intend to facilitate personal interaction. Individuals that are residing outside Europe can ask for exceptional participation online. Additionally, different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will be present with information booths in the symposium's exhibition area, which provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences as well as to get in touch with a great variety of institutions.
HSM 2026 is applying for CME credits by the Bavarian Medical Chamber.
