We conducted the face-to-face phase of the 2024 Academic Teacher Training Course (ATTC) in Curitiba. This second phase of our course was held from September 16 to 20 at the Federal University of Paraná, in Curitiba, Brazil, under the coordination of the local team: Prof. Sonia Raboni, Prof. Denise Carvalho and Prof. Edison Tizzot, with the collaboration of Prof. Matthias Siebeck (LMU Medical Education) and Veronica Encina ( CIHLMU ). The goal of the course is to strengthen teaching competencies of teachers in the fields of medical and health professions education. Participants were from UFPR, including two postgraduate students, Universidad del Rosario in Colombia and Universidad San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca.
The learning took place in plenary and facilitated small group work: feedback and microteaching, peer group consultation, Objective Structured Clinical Examination, tools for workplace-based assessment, Case-Based Learning and many more. Participants developed a Lesson Plan as a basis for using new teaching and learning activities in their own workplace. A group of students shared their ideas on how to improve learning at the university. The overall evaluation of the activities was very satisfactory, and 100% of participants “would recommend this course to their colleagues”. We appreciate the welcome and the excellent facilities provided by UFPR for this activity, we congratulate the effort and work of all participants and encourage them to continue with the next phases of the course, transfer, when they will develop their own class using what they have learned, and the online symposium, where they will share their results.
