On 6 March, 2020, the International Health MSc and PhD students from the Center of International Health ( CIHLMU ) held a Symposium on E-health. This event was supported by the CIH Coordination Office and the Center of Advanced Studies (CAS) from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). We were honored to receive students, specialized medical doctors, and other professionals from the field of health. The sessions aimed to discuss the gaps and opportunities to share experiences in different health care systems and to discuss future trends of e-Health implementation.
The symposium had speakers from Germany, Uganda, and Kenya, with a remarkable experience and diverse background within e-Health implementation and surveillance, mostly in low- and middle-income contexts. They talked about the need of the health and technology sector to reduce the current boundaries in funding, health impact, ethical, and legal frameworks, that directly influence the scale-up of several platforms and initiatives related to the field in different regions of the world.
It was a very enriching academic event that provided knowledge and consolidated networking in the growing field of e-Health. It covered e-Health opportunities in all dimensions, allowed the exchange of experiences in low- and middle income countries from a public and a private sectors perspective. It was a great opportunity to discuss current ethical and legal gaps in different regions of the world, and shed light on innovations related to e-Health implementation in different scenarios from local to global health.
