In mid-March, the International Health PhD and Master students organized the symposium "Protecting Workers' Health." It was a great opportunity to bring together students and professionals from all over the world interested in worker's safety.
The speakers who were invited to the symposium came from different countries like South Africa and Colombia, and shared their valuable knowledge and experience. Through their informative and motivating talks, the participants learned about the current OSH situation, especially regarding respiratory diseases, in high- as well as low- and middle- income countries.
The speakers highlighted the importance of prevention in respiratory occupational diseases and work-related diseases. Interventions such as education, social media, and videos could be helpful in preventing these diseases and raising awareness. Participants learned about Tuberculosis among health workers, respiratory diseases found in the mining sector, work-related asthma, artificial intelligence, and the role of imaging in diagnosis. Through this all there was one common take home message: the beautiful thing about OSH is that diseases in the workplace are preventable!
