Date
08 Nov 2014
Location
Munich

The Center for International Health, the Global Mental Health GroupLMU from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and the International Network for Cooperation in Mental Health (i.nez), are organizing the 6th International Symposium on “Global Mental Health – Mental Health in Developing Countries”. More than half a billion people worldwide have a neuropsychiatric disorder or are dependent on alcohol or drugs. More than 80% of these people live in a developing country and most of them do not receive appropriate treatment. Many are stigmatized and experience prejudice, social exclusion and frequent violations of their human rights. All of these factors can cause serious psychological, physical, social and economic harm.

The Symposia presented an overview of the importance of mental health for developing countries. The symposium was open to all staff and students interested in this topic.

The Symposia was organized by: Prof. Matthias Siebeck, CIHLMU Dr. Andrea Jobst, CIHLMU Dr. Sandra Dehning, CIHLMU Global Mental Health GroupLMU Dr. Wolfgang Krahl, i.nez
