MSc International Occupational Safety and Health

Please note: The MSc in International Occupational Safety and Health is no longer offered.

In order to improve the working conditions in Latin America, from 2012 to 2019 the CIHLMU has offered the MSc in International Occupational Safety and Health in cooperation with universities in Latin America. The main objective of the Master program in Spanish and English was to train professionals in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). This international and interdisciplinary training was based on the Blended-Learning concept, which combined three face-to-face courses (two in Latin America and one in Munich) with online courses and work on projects supported by local tutors. Over 60 professionals from Latin America have been trained in this master's program. They now work in responsible positions in the private and public sector as well as in research/ science in their home countries and can thus promote occupational health and safety locally. The majority of the graduates are also directly involved in academic education or training of workers, acting as multipliers for the improvement of working conditions.

In order to meet the diverse demands and enable a broader group of OSH experts to receive a scientifically based education in OSH, the Diploma on Occupational Safety and Health was offered starting in 2016 and individual modules were opened to external participants. The diploma program was designed in a very flexible way based on the master program, but only including distance learning modules in Spanish which were more feasible for many OSH professionals. Furthermore, specific online modules of the master program on correct identification of occupational risks, the understanding of the foundations of occupational medicine, ergonomics and English proficiency at a scientific level were offered to external OSH professionals to train knowledgeable experts with deep professional knowledge and an international outlook.

Detailed information on the structure and methodology of the programs and the outputs of this activity can be found in the publications on OSH topics and the theses of the graduates.
