Meet our PhD Alumnus Ivan Noreña from Colombia

I‘m a Colombian Physician specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Before starting my International health MSc, I was an infectious diseases practitioner in my hometown Bogotá.
The international health field was a new concept for me; I used to mix public health, global health, and international health, but then, during my MSc, I realized the differences and objectives of these fields and learned new skills to pursue improvement of health around the globe and particularly on low- and middle-income countries. Additionally, the program provides a multicultural atmosphere during the different lectures and activities because you meet diploma, MSc, and Ph.D. students with different nationalities and backgrounds.
After finishing my MSc, I have a broader scope regarding infectious diseases and tropical medicine that complement my clinical experience in those fields. Additionally, it prepared me for multinational and multicultural cooperation, which will be essential in approaching different global infectious and tropical health problems. I want to be able to work on clinical practice but also participate in international and global health initiatives tackling communicable diseases. Currently, I’m working as Project Manager for the division of Infectious diseases and tropical medicine from the University hospital in Munich (Klinikum der LMU).
