The BUHS, which has become a CIH partner institution, was established in 2012, and is a higher educational institution, offering both graduate and postgraduate programs in health sciences education. The Department of Non-Communicable Diseases started operations in 2015. Our representative at BUHS is Dr Mithila Faruque, an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of NCD, is the Course Coordinator. Additionally, CIH alumnus Mohammad Wahiduzzaman remains actively involved in the course coordination, and Professor Shariful Islam, a CIH alumnus and faculty member of the NCD department at BUHS is also involved with the course as a resource person. Dr Mohammad Wahiduzzaman is a medical doctor, graduate and alumnus of the CIH PhD Program Medical Research – International Health. During his studies, he showed a profound interest in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and after his graduation, he suggested the conception of an Advanced Module on the Burden of NCDs. He facilitated contact with the Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS), with which the new advanced module was conceived as a two-week synchronous online course, running annually since 2022. The target participants are both students from Bangladesh as well as students from LMU Munich. The course received later accreditation by the tropEd Network for Education in International Health, and received further-on additional participants from abroad.
