Humanitarian Interventions in High Risk Contexts
The next Humanitarian Symposium Munich (HSM) will be held on Saturday, 15 February 2025, starting at 9:00, CET, in the Big Lecture Hall at the LMU Medical Hospital, Ziemssenstraße 1, 80336 Munich.
The world is experiencing an unprecedented moment of fragility and uncertainty. Climate-change-fueled disasters are more frequent and intense. Conflict in many parts of the world continues to go unresolved, eroding people’s coping capacities.
In today's complex humanitarian landscape, the prevalence of protracted crises underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to addressing humanitarian needs. Humanitarian action is frequently taking place in in situations of risk – the high levels of risks to civilian populations inherent in crisis contexts are the rationale for humanitarian intervention, and are also the predominant consideration for how, when and what interventions are made.
During the HSM 2025, we will explore the challenges and strategies for delivering humanitarian assistance in conflict zones. The symposium will consider various risk settings, amongst whom also the recent war in the Ukraine and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Through detailed case studies, we aim to shed light on the dangers in these regions, including severe access restrictions, security threats, and operational hurdles that complicate aid delivery.
The symposium will take place in hybrid format, where in presence as well as online invited speakers will present their work and expertise on the topic throughout a full day program. Participants will also be able to join the symposium in presence and online. Additionally, different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will be present with information booths in the symposium's exhibition area, which provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences as well as to get in touch with a great variety of institutions.
HSM 2025 is applying for CME credits by the Bavarian Medical Chamber.
