Target Group: Teachers and students in health professions education and other domains who want to improve their skills as educators.

Teaching Methods

The course aims to initiate an active and participatory learning process by using activating and interactive learning methods and concepts.The development of related competencies (e.g. intercultural and softs skills) are supported by tutored small group discussions, group work, group presentations and expert sessions.

  • Problem-based learning
  • Curricula development methods

Learning Objectives

At the end of the module, the participants will be able to:

  • structure their own teaching and assessing in large and small classes,
  • develop a curriculum from learning objectives to assessment methods and teaching and learning activities for their own teaching practice at their home institution,
  • give and receive feedback to peers and students in their daily practice,
  • practice intercultural communication and collaborations,
  • share professional teaching expertise across different health professions and countries, and
  • use online facilitation tools and techniques routinely.

Schedule:

  • Kick-off meeting with explaination of pre-course assignments (reading and writing, time investment approx. 8 hours)
  • 5 days of synchronous, tutor-facilitated online distance learning course (time investment approx. 35 hours)
  • Transfer phase with post-course assignments (writing, reading, teaching at home institution and receiving feedback from a peer; observing and providing feedback to a peer)
  • Symposium (voluntary for tropEd students)

Please note that you have to complete the entire course to receive a certificate of competency.
