JITOHealth

Despite being a promising approach to prevent future pandemics, disciplinary and cultural silo thinking and lack of trained personnel are some factors that can hamper the implementation of One Health initiatives. The Joint Initiative for Teaching and Learning on Global Health Challenges and One Health (JITOHealth) focuses on surpassing these issues, promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative practice, intercultural competencies with cross-cultural experiences, and contact with experts from different countries and areas.

JITOHealth involves graduate programs of six universities from Brazil (UFES, UFPR), Germany (LMU, TUM), Mozambique (UCM), and Kosovo (KAAB) in the international course Global Health Challenges and One Health, which applies collaborative online international learning principles, contributing to curriculum internationalization by promoting exchange even in the challenging pandemic of COVID-19.

Modules on intercultural competence, interprofessional and collaborative practice in One Health; One Health; healthcare, surveillance, and One Health; bioethics in One Health and careers in Global Health were created in collaboration with 44 recognized experts from 22 institutions of the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Human resource is a vital capacity for strengthening the health systems locally and globally. By promoting South-South, North-South, and North-North partnerships, JITOHealth aims for equity in this educational initiative. It also creates a network to support further actions and partnerships, encompassing traditional health areas and biology, veterinary, anthropology, and philosophy.

The course Global Health Challenges and One Health is available on the CIHLMU Moodle platform.
